Visit to Linkoping Sweden

My last post was about how I blogged from the airport and I was hoping I would find similar service in other air ports as well. Well other air ports do have the service but you have to pay for it. So my plan of blogging my journey all went wrong. I thought the Sweden trip deserved its very own blog but since hub pages have a better chance of out performing blogspot blogs I decided to write some hubs about different places I visited while in Linkoping. One thing you can't miss when in Linkoping is the cathedral so my first hub was about the Linkoping cathedral. Then I made a hub about old Swedish town Gamla Linkoping. I did put some effort to make them nice so I hope you guys enjoy them.

Blogging from the airport

At the airport now and have some time to kill , so was looking for some thing to do and found a free Internet booth. The check in process went smoothly , the guy at the counter knew some of my friends at IFS so didn't have much trouble getting in and he helped me out as well. The place is almost deserted , I wasn't expecting huge crowd but I surely expected more than this , already missing people back home , but at least I'm traveling with two others which is a comfort. If all goes well I'll be going to Linkoping railway station by mid day tomorrow. Mom has packed plenty of winter clothes and don't know whether I'll be really needing them , better safe than sorry I guess , there will be a transit in Doha , maybe they also have free Internet access :)

Shopping for winter clothes in House of Fashion

With the visit to Sweden getting close I suddenly realized that I haven't actually brought winter clothes. I tend to do things much better when they are done at the last moment. So put aside everything and went to House of Fashion to buy some winter clothing. Lucking there was a list of things to buy so you don't have to worry much about figuring out what to buy. It has all the kinds of clothes you hope to buy so didn't have trouble buying everything from there. The best thing was it was relatively cheap as well , I was hoping that it would cost me around 20k to buy all the stuff in the list but I managed to do it in around 12k , that is after buying some T-shirts and shorts for my brother as well. This is my first time going out from Sri Lanka so I'm exited about it but at the same time I'm a bit nervous as well. One good thing is my Manager in Sweden seems to be readying everything for me from mobile phones to bus passes. Well just two more days to go :-)

Getting fed up with questionnaires

Being in a software company with a huge staff I usually get a questionnaire once every two weeks or so. I don't mind answering a questionnaire especially if its relevant to myself but some people just doesn't know how to prepare a well planned questionnaire. Its either too long or printed in dark bold so you have a hard time looking at it let alone filling it. There are plenty of guides on how to prepare a questionnaire and if you want a good response to your questionnaire then at least follow some steps mentioned in them.

Getting a passport in Sri Lanka-its easier than you think

I got a sudden opportunity to go to Sweden and I had to get the passport in a hurry. With all the horror stories about inefficient government service I went to the Department of Immigration and emigration with a bit of worry about the time I will waste. Instead I found the system at the passport office to be very efficient. First of all there are direction signs all over the place to guide you where you want to go. There are people at most entrances to guide you to the specific counter and there is a ticket system to efficiently manage the issuing of passports.My form is looked at in about 1o minutes everything was approved and I was told to come around 4.00 PM. I went back there around 4.10 PM and it was ready. All in all I must have spend around 20 minutes inside the office to get the passport which is pretty efficient for me. If you have your documents in order getting a passport is very easy and definitely very efficient.

Don't be lazy if you want to make money online

When people look to earn money on Internet in Sri Lanka they usually tend to take the easy way which is almost guaranteed to fail. I have mentioned many times that reading e-mails and registering for paid to click sites is not a good way to make money online , those methods are not passive income and you have to work hard everyday to keep the money coming and you can never go past a certain level of income. But still I get sign ups under me for Hits4Pay which was a bit surprising for me since I don't promote it anywhere. That is when I discovered that I was promoting it in my Make Money Online page in my blog. I have recommended so many other resources but somehow people manage to find the link to reading e-mails for money. I suppose its something to do with familiarity , people understand reading e-mail , but they don't understand key word research , SEO and stuff that really make money. I do feel sorry about them and if you are looking to make some real money then try this course for 1$ , I guarantee you that it is worth it.

Almost Forgot weebly

I really can't remember the reason I created a Weebly account , the most obvious reason I can think of is to get some back links. I remembered it again when I saw it in my old FireFox book marks. So after some trial and error I finally managed to find the user name and the password to my account. I have created two web sites using the service and my suspicion was correct , it was created to get some back links :) , it has the ability to add RSS feeds etc so could be a good way to get some easy back links. Hunting for Glass dining tables

When you are on the lookout for dining tables one thing you are sure to find very often is round glass dining table. The beveled edge looks so much better in round tables and the round shape is suitable for almost any place. And when you are seated around a round table there is a feeling of you belonging to the group while in a square or a rectangular table you might feed neglected. When you start thinking about it there are all sorts of reasons why round tables are more suited than normal rectangular dining tables. Maybe thats why King Arthur had a round table , so everyone will feel equal :-)

Started Using Twit Sniper

Got a trial offer to try out Twit Sniper , which is much more enhanced version of Twitter Snipe. By the looks of things this is definitely a much better product with mass direct message and scheduled tweets. Set up a few niche accounts , automatically build targeted followers using the software and schedule some tweets with affiliate products. Looks very easy to do but in reality harder to execute. After spending some time in Hub pages one thing I realized is there is a huge demand for pictures of Indian Film actresses.Less clothes they have more popular the hub seems to be. So I thought will this work for Sri Lankan actresses as well. So I created my first hub about Upeksha Swarnamali hot sexy sri lankan actress. And on the first day it self I got 19 visits and the most interesting thing is its all from within hub pages. In a few days this will rank in search engines and then I can have a good understanding of how much of a demand is there for these kind of hubs. I wish to do two things with these hubs , first is make revenue with Adsense and the next is to push more traffic to my other hubs , surely Sri Lankan online users are interested about making money online in Sri Lanka.

MaxBlogPress has come out with another great product and I thing this would solve one of my biggest problems as well. Since I rank well for terms regarding making money online in Sri Lanka I get a lot of questions about how to make money blogging. In the new project !!

Yesterday I was informed by my project manager that I would be in the Eagle project which is the newest development project at IFS. I had good time working for product support I guess it was a good time to move on to something different. I have being in IFS for close to 6 years and I was always in the support team. This is the first time I went to a Product development team so I'm pretty exited. The first phase of the project is more of a quality improvement thing so hopefully it will be challenging and interesting at the same time. I'm assigned to look into a commit and rollback issues and according to the new PM it's a tricky area. Well wish me luck :)

Why is it so hard to find data entry jobs in Sri Lanka

Every day I get at least one mail or comment in my blog asking me to teach someone to how to make money online. It is not that easy folks and believe me if you have no idea about how to make money online then it is pretty hard to explain as well. I prefer to make money online from blogging and it isn't the only way I make money online. Another good way to make some extra income is doing freelance jobs in the internet. It's bit hard to find a data entry job in Sri Lanka and because of incidents like sea gull most people have lost trust as well. Maybe I should write a book or a guide about making money online for beginners.

Worst bowling performance

Last Sunday I went to the race course grounds for a cricket tournament. Although we managed to win one match it was a horrible day for me. They were four ball overs and I manged to give 26 and 24 in my two overs in two matched. Althought it was supposed to be fun I was a bit dissapointed about my bowling. One or two bad balls are ok , but to bowl four bad balls in a row was very dissapointing. Better luck next time

Second Againa and cheated again

We recently had our Sports Day in office and since I wasn't involved in any event other than the tug of war I was able to enjoy it much more than the previous one. Cricket was the main event but there were some fun events too to make it interesting and enjoyable to everyone. I especially like the fun relay , although I doubt it would have being fun for the participants. Our team "Marisi Panda" got disqualified in the fun relay otherwise we could have won easily. Well better luck next time

Trying out hubpages

I have signed up for hubpages a while ago but never got around to using it , but after hearing some good things about the service I decided to give it a go. It is very similar to Squidoo so if you have being using Squidoo for a while you wouldn't have much trouble getting familiar with hubpages. Well I try to write about Myself as my first pub but then again thought I should write about something that I'm familiar with. So check out my first hub about Making money online in Sri Lanka. Twitter software to get more followers

My Twitter Snipe review is doing pretty well in the search engines. The strange thing is that the only result before that is a tweet and it points to my post about Twitter snipe. I think this is more to do with Twitter being the domain name for that particular result. Anyway after using it for a while I have no doubt that Twitter Snipe is one of the best Twitter software to get more Twitter followers , if not the best. If they can find a way to provide the software without the need for self hosting I think it has the potential to really take off.

OIO publisher for blogspot blogs

After seeing how easy it is to set up banner advertisement sections using OIO publisher in my Wordpress blog about making money blogging I had to wonder when such a facility will be available in blogspot blogs. Majority of the blogs out there have no interest to make money from there blog so I guess the blogspot team will take a while to introduce a feature like this , but some how I think there should be a third party software that supports this kind of think in blogspot blogs. Try as I might I couldn't find any such software or script. Well I can always wait till the blogspot team get around to doing it :) .

Clypidus missing from search results

Today I searched for Clypidus and my blog post about Clypidus is missing from search engine listing. Its obviously not spam although you might consider that it doesn't provide any value for human readers. But this is something you shouldn't worry about. Having set up few blogs and try to rank for them in search engines it is pretty normal for your listing to dissapear all of a sudden especially when they just got into search engine listing. Just keep getting back links and you should be ok.This Clypidus experiment sure looks like a good way to test out some SEO tactics. Be sure to use ethical tactics because they always pay off in the long run :).

CEO comes for a visit

Last Thursday our CEO came for a visit to Sri Lanka and we had a nice presentation in a near by conference hall. Most of us were eagerly waiting to hear what he have to say because of the recession and the current global market situation. Fortunately for us ths sectors we are mostly providing solutions are not effected that much so we are doing ok. If we are doing so ok maybe they should have given a bonus for this new year ;) but they might be saving it expecting tougher times.

The best thing about IPL

There are lots of good things about IPL but up to now the best thing about IPL is the ability to watch Tendulkar and Jayasuriya bat together. Sure they were present in the last version of IPL but Tendulkar was injured in the first few games and they never really put up a partnership together. Well all that was laid to rest against the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. It wasn't brutal stuff but quality cricket shots executed with minimum of fuss. The other great thing about the two of them is how humble they are. They have achieved so much but are very humble about it. Maybe that is one of the reasons that they achieved such great heights.

After starting to actively use Twitter I have tried few windows Twitter clients but by far the best is TweetDeck. It has the ability to group your followers which is pretty useful if you are following a considerable number of users and it also shows your Friends Facebook updates. Swedish Foreign Ministers Passport rejected

Thats whats making head lines these days in Sri Lanka , well at least in our office , but if you do some research you will find out that it isn't actually rejection but simply asking him to come back another time because of security concerns. This just goes to show the tendency of news channels to hype things up , sure they give the details full details in the article but they sure do start up with an controversial head line. Reporting done by CNN is pathetic to say the least. Well its up to the readers to use there brains in figuring these things out.

The growth of Twitter have being phenomenal to say the least , with celebrities like Oprah joining Twitter it has shown a rapid growth of 200% in the last few months. Its interesting to see the way people make use of Twitter , some use it to stay in touch with friends and some use it as a marketing tool. Either way how to best use Twitter and how to grow your Twitter followers is one of the biggest questions faced by the people who are new to Twitter. Are you on Twitter ? Ohh The chivas regal horror

One of the worst things that can happen to someone is to keep a bottle of chivas regal at your office desktop and not able to drink it. Since I have a few buddies in the office who have partied for more than four years we always do share these stuff. I waited for around two weeks until one of them comes from Sweden. He came back on Saturday and I thought "great" , guess what two others are doing there MSc this week and they said to wait for another week. WTF !

Worlds Largest Hostage rescue mission undertaken by Sri Lanka Army

Today Sri Lanka army pulled off the world's largest hostage rescue mission. More than 30,000 people were rescued from the clutches of the LTTE , who were using Tamil people as human sheilds. With most of the civilians gone LTTE loses there final chance of survival. The least LTTE high command can do it surrender and end the suffering of rest of the civilians.

Having fun watching the politicians

Today another political parade went infront of our house , as usual it had lots of drunk men , old women and damn expensive vehicles. The sad thing is usually these kind of men are the one's who get elected. Frankly I don't have a clue what these guys do , I only see them during the election times and it all the things in the leaflets are true Moratuwa must be one of most prospourous cities in Sri Lanka. Do we really need these guys ? With so many ministers around surely they can handle managing a province.

Whats so special about Slumdog Millionaire

After watching Slumdog Millionaire I can't understand why it won so many awards ? It's a good film with a different theme no doubt about it , But is it that great to win so many awards ? I don't think so.
The story line was different and the movie keeps you engaged until the end and it shows you some of the hardships faced by the people in India and poor people in general. Definitely a movie worth watching

How to make a website your home page ?

With lots of browsers going around these days it sure is pretty hard to find one common way to do things in all those browsers. How to make a website your home page is one thing that is different in almost all the browsers. Why cant they all agree on one simple thing for every browser is beyond me. However I like the IE and Chrome approach of letting you set multiple sites as your home page. Google goes one step further with there browser Chrome , you can specify few sites that will start with the browser but have a separate home page as well. No wonder they own the internet :)

Weebly

Weebly is a web site where you can create your own websites for free. Its pretty easy to create a website using Weebly and there are plenty of options to create a web site that matches your needs. Most importantly you can get some good back links using this method. As you might expect my first web site was about Making money blogging. Lucking I managed to get a good sub domain name that is rich with keywords. You might not get so lucky so better start creating those websites now.

First visitor from Google

My squidoo lens about Habarana got its first visitor from Google and the search term was Habarana guest house. This was a bit of a surprise since I has only added it a few days ago. The success of my squidoo lenses are surprizing even myself. Looks like Google index them quickly and place a lot of trust in them as well. One more reason to build up more squidoo lenses :)

First day of the year

Yesterday was a half day for us , actually its not fair to call it a half day because most of the time is spent on having breakfast and exchanging gifts. I gave a shirt as the present and received a tie and cuff links as a present. Since we had the afternoon free we decided to go and watch Madagascar - Escape to Africa. It was not as cool as the first one but it was ok. I like the penguins the most :) . After the movie we went and played Dota , well not the best way to start off the year but at least I had fun.
